About Me

Hello, I'm Asha Carolyn Young. Born and raised in Thailand to American parents, I've lived in various places, including Chiang Mai and Bangkok, Thailand; Vientiane, Laos; and Bend, Oregon. I've lived in California since high school in San Luis Obispo; and I spent many years in Los Angeles, Berkeley, Oakland, and San Francisco. I now live in Northern California on the coast.

My background as an energy healer includes decades of meditation and study of supplemental and spiritual healing.

I'm an intuitive energy healer and certified Quantum-Touch practitioner and instructor. During healing sessions, I intuitively integrate Quantum-Touch techniques along with other healing modalities.

My background includes many years of association with spiritual teachers and gifted psychics and channelers, along with reading a wide array of spiritual literature. I have undertaken intensive Theravada Buddhist meditation with the Willpower Institute; and for 25 years I've been channeling a wonderful spirit guide, Laya, whom I met after the infamous Oakland Hills Firestorm of 1991, then the largest urban fire in the U.S.

That fire destroyed my entire neighborhood, except for my house, which my partner and I had kept encircled with White Light during the event. However, my painting studio, a separate building in the back yard, melted to the ground with my oil painting equipment, latest paintings, and freshly hand-built canvases, forcing me to face loss.

What I lost was nothing, of course, compared to the sadness of lives lost and homes destroyed; and my partner and I felt profound gratitude for our experience.

The fire brought enormous transformation for me, as fires often do for people. Within weeks, I received my name "Asha" whispered to me during a guided meditation. I began signing my paintings "Asha," which I later learned means "hope" in Hindi.

Also during this time, I also learned to channel my guide, Laya, and began painting abstractly. I met Hari Thomas, who became my bosom buddy, spiritual advisor, and painting colleague for the next 18 years. I also studied laying-on-of-hands with Joseph Martinez in San Francisco.

My past professional life includes freelance writing and editing, grant-writing,  for refugee agencies, ESL teaching, newspaper reporting, indie publishing, and occasionally art shows of my paintings. I have compiled and self-published three art-related books, one of which is about Hari Thomas, compiled and written after he passed on in 2011 (Carry Your Own Joy: The Life and Abstract Paintings of Hari E. Thomas, 2015).

As a healer, I enjoy inspiring people to pursue their own creativity as a part of their healing journeys.

I hold a B.A. in History (University of California, Los Angeles) and M.A. in Cultural Anthropology (University of California, Berkeley). During the mid-80s, I pursued a PhD. in Cultural Anthropology at U.C. Berkeley, focusing on "Thai Buddhist Nuns," which led to some amazing spiritual experiences in the Chiang Mai area during preliminary fieldwork. I left the PhD. program after three years to pursue my own writing and painting, and -- unbeknownst to me then -- to find my spiritual path.

I live in Gualala, California, a small coastal town north of San Francisco, with my husband and pet family. I'm a member of Wellness on the Coast, a group of local spiritual, energetic, and natural healers providing complementary and alternative services for people here.
